Well, after all my grocery shopping today, I indulged and got myself a pretty book to write my own prayer devotionals ..... Oh it is pretty!! You see it here on one of my Bibles ready to be used! It has a picture of pink poppies (needed something fresh and flowery after all the cold, grey weather and snow we had). The cover is 'bendy' with a fabric feel, but is wipeable. Oh yes, the pink inside does not extend to the pages ... they are white ... honest!!
Well, the idea is - and I will obviously use the Song of Solomon for starters - to write out (copy) the verses directly from a favourite translation, or one, that might express that portion particularly well. Then, kind of create a more personalised paraphrased version or summary, or letting my own prayerful and poetic juices flow.
To study and beef it out a bit, it's really cool to cross reference the text, e.g. some similar text in the book of proverbs, psalms or elsewhere. Finally write using what was gleaned from the scriptures, being the 'Shulamite' Bride of Christ, with her passionate yearning for intimacy with her Beloved ... really getting in touch with this heart-felt love and passion for the Lord, and express this in writing, maybe poetic love song to Him ... or a painted, or anything else creative?
In the end, that prayer journal, spanning into other books of the Bible, will become a valuable companion, as it's always available to dip in, especially during the 'dry seasons'.
